2014 Mercedes-Benz GLA revealed ahead of Frankfurt debut

This was quick. Following yesterday’s teaser video, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the GLA compact SUV ahead of its public debut at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

The production GLA looks very similar to the concept, which made its debut earlier this year at the Auto Shanghai. Measuring 4,417mm in length, 1,804mm in width and 1,494mm in height, the GLA shares its platform with the A-Class.

The GLA will bee optionally available with the new-generation permanent all-wheel drive system 4MATIC, with fully variable torque distribution.

The luggage compartment offers 421 – 836 litres and the wide tailgate opens automatically as an option.

From launch 1.6 and 2.0-litre petrol engines will be offered with power ranging from 156 hp in the GLA 200 to 211 hp in the GLA 250.

There are also two diesels available. The GLA 200 CDI uses a 2.2-litre diesel with 136 hp and maximum torque of 300 Nm and the GLA 220 CDI uses a 2.2-litre engine with 170 hp and 350 Nm.

Pricing details will be announced before order books open in November and the first deliveries are scheduled for early 2014.

A hot GLA 45 AMG with 360 hp will follow later.
