The new Audi A3 Cabrio has been caught testing again, ahead of its possible public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in two weeks.
The new A3 Cabrio prototype was caught testing on the public roads in Germany wearing a bit less camouflage around the front and rear, compared to our previous spy shots from the snowy Sweden earlier this year.
The new A3 Cabrio rides on on Volkswagen’s MQB platform which already underpins the A3 hatch and saloon, Golf VII, Seat Leon and Skoda Octavia.
Engine range will carry over from the standard A3/S3, so the base model will use a 122bhp 1.4 TFSI, while the S3 Cabrio is powered by a new 296bhp 2.0-litre, direct-injection turbocharged TFSI engine. RS3 Cabrio is also expected with around 400bhp from a turbocharged five-cylinder, 2.5-litre unit.
The main competitor to the new A3 Cabrio is the upcoming BMW 2 Series Cabrio.
