2013 Shelby 1000 S/C revealed, packs just as much power as the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Shelby American has brought the new 2013 Shelby 1000 S/C with 1,200 hp (1183bhp) to the New York Auto Show.

Based on the 653bhp Ford Shelby GT500, the Shelby 1000 S/C packs almost twice the power thanks to a new 5.8L V8 power plant with stronger pistons, rods and a new crank to withstand the massive power increase.

1183bhp is very impressive and exactly as much as in the world’s fastest car, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. The problem with all that power is how can you get all that power to the ground.

Shelby did not release performance specs, but knowing the 653bhp Shelby GT500 does 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 202mph, we are sure the 1183bhp is not a whole lot faster in the 0-60mph sprint as the power is still sent to just rear wheels and the car still has the live rear axle. Top speed is obviously improved as well.

Just 100 cars will be built, each costing $154,995 (roughly £100k), not including the base GT500.
