2012 Ford Kuga prototypeFord’s new global crossover, based on the same platform as new Focus has been spotted inside and out with very heavy camouflage. This new CUV will replace the current Escape in North American and Kuga in Europe.

The overall shape of the car is very similar to the Vertrek Concept, that was shown at the Detroit Auto Show previewing the production version that is expected to arrive in early 2012.

Looking through the front disguise we can see a grille and front fascia, that look quite similar to the Ford Edge. On the rear we can see angular-looking taillights and the squared-off roofline at the rear is fake.

This new CUV will be powered by four-cylinder engines, including the EcoBoost unit. A hybrid version will be also available, with Ford’s next-generation hybrid powertrain technology.

As it is a global vehicle, it will look very similar on different markets. The name has not been confirmed yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it gets a new name that will be used globally instead of using Escape in North American and Kuga here in Europe.
